INFORMATIONS
The departure point for your Monte Rosa Heliskiing adventure is in Italy, from the village of Cervinia at 2000m altitude at the end of the Valtournenche valley. You’ll then head for the Testa Grigia pass at 3444m altitude, which you’ll reach via the Cervinia lifts. From here, a helicopter dedicated to Heliskiing will be waiting for you in the snow, just a few steps from the lift arrival point.
Zermatt residents can also easily reach Col Testa Grigia via the Zermatt lifts.
After a cappuccino and a safety briefing at the nearby Cervinia Guides’ hut, you’ll board the helicopter at around 10 a.m. for an exhilarating flight to Europe’s highest Heliski drop-off, the Silbergsattel Heliski drop-off, 4,350m above sea level on the Italian-Swiss border.
ITINERARY
The Heliski descent to Zermatt begins in a unique setting of crevasses, impressive North faces and snow often described as “cinematic” because of its abundance and lightness; an exhilarating experience that plunges you into the center of the Mont Rosa glaciers; an experience marked by unparalleled passages along one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular crevassed glaciers, the Grenzgletscher (around 16 km long).
In terms of technical difficulty, the Heliski descent at Mont Rose is comparable to the legendary Vallée Blanche, but the Heliski descent at Mont Rose is not to be outdone in terms of beauty. It’s much more pleasant because there are fewer skiers on the route. There are many variations on the ski itinerary, and it’s easy to find the steepness of your choice and some great tracks to make in snow that’s often cold, light and abundant, thanks to the northern exposure of the descent and its high altitude.
The Monte Rosa Heliski route is often described as magnificent, magical, unique… ! Superlatives abound to describe this Heliski descent, unique in Europe.
Immersed in the wilderness, you’ll get up close and personal with the biggest and most emblematic peaks in the Mont Rose Massif, including Dufourzpitz, Lyskamm, Castor, Pollux and many others.
Once you’ve reached the end of your descent in Zermatt, and for those staying in Cervinia, you’ll return to Italy via the Swiss lifts from Zermatt to the Testa Grigia pass. This is followed by a long ski descent of around 1500m on or off-piste in the Cervinia resort to the parking lot, where your car will be waiting for you.
It will then take you 1h30 to reach Chamonix via the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
